Meeker board approves boundary map

Meeker’s Town Board of Trustees this week adopted a resolution calling for the 2025 notice of election and also approved the map of municipal boundaries for the town.

Trustees were presented and voted to accept the 2023-2024 audit report and added a HUD Code of Conduct to the Town Trustee handbook.

On the election, there will be two four-year terms to be filled. The ballot will state that the two candidates will be elected to fill four-year terms.

The two seats to be filled in the 2025 election are currently held by Trustees Mike Melton and Aaron Head.

The filing period will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2025 to Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025. The non-partisan general election, if needed, will be Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

In the audit presentation by a representative of Russell and Williams, CPA, it was pointed out that Meeker’s sales tax revenue dropped nearly $100,000 from the previous year.

The representative discussed ways the Trustees and Town staff could determine possibly what has caused the dropped and how to remedy that.

Trustees also authorized Grant Administrator Leslie Wilbourn to begin working with USDA, the Oklahoma Rural Water Association and Regional RIG Administration to research available grants including for water, water disposal, Community Facilities and Emergency Readiness Plan.

Trustees voted to rescind an item from a special Dec. 13, 2023 meeting regarding an employee to opt out of the health insurance and start receiving compensation on each paycheck.

They voted to amend an ordinance which provides for the rules for safety to the users of the Town of Meeker Municipal Lake. And they voted for the emergency clause making it effective immediately.

Trustees voted to declare a 2007 White Chevrolet pickup truck 1500, a 2004 white Chevrolet pickup truck 1500 and a 2006 Black Chevy Impala as surplus. They will take sealed bids for 30 days and open those at their January Board of Trustees meeting.

In other business, Trustees: Approved a permit to add an awning to the west side of the Senior Citizens building located at 313 S. Dawson in Meeker and approved a permit to approve a sign to be placed next to SH 18 in front of Shelter Insurance located at 205 S. Dawson in Meeker.

They agreed to make Green Street one way eastward all the way to Koonce at Meeker Elementary school.

In his report, Town Administrator Jeff Wilbourn reminded the Trustees that about eight months ago they authorized him to purchase some vehicles. He informed them he had managed, through the state contract, to purchase two 2019 F150 pickup trucks and one 2020 F150 pickup truck for a total of $40,000.

He also told them the Town had received an $84,000 REAP grant through COEDD.
