Murder manhunt: suspect in custody

A murder suspect who was wanted in connection with a Midwest City homicide was captured following a lengthy manhunt in Lincoln County involving several agencies.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Sgt. Aaron Bennett, Public Information Officer, confirmed Ryan Archer was arrested and taken into custody shortly before noon in Lincoln County, about one mile west and one mile north of where he had crashed his vehicle the evening before.

Bennett reported that around 6:19 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26, U.S. Marshals were trying to locate Archer in an area near Wellston in Lincoln County.

“They attempted to locate him and made a traffic stop on a Toyota Avalon that had been spray painted black. Archer was wanted on a felony warrant for homicide out of Oklahoma County,” he noted.

Bennett said the pursuit began in a rural area and down dirt roads. “About six minutes into the pursuit, the Marshals spotted the vehicle at the intersection of 3350 and 990 Roads and it had crashed there,” Bennett explained. He said the location is southwest of Wellston.

The suspect had fled from the scene, Bennett said. “The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Special Operations Team was activated and along with Wellston Police, Lincoln County Emergency Management and several other agencies who joined the Marshals in a manhunt.”

He said from information obtained from an individual near the scene the description on what Archer was wearing, a dark colored shirt and blue jeans was provided.

Bennett pointed out, “For the next five hours we looked for him also using drones and a helicopter,” he reported.

Bennett said that although the manhunt was pulled back, “We had patrols combing that area all night into the next day.”

Archer remained at large until nearly 18 hours after the pursuit began he was captured by the agencies involved in the manhunt.
