Residents of Stroud were treated to a new look on their water tower last week. The 117-foot-tall tower was spruced up and given a fresh paint job.
According to City Manager Bob Pearman, the project took about six weeks and wrapped up the first week of December. It was part of general maintenance that needs to be done periodically.
“The tower is 108 years old and in great shape and now also looks great,” he added.
USG Water Utility Company power-washed both inside and outside the tower, as well as painted. The city manager said the company is under contract with the City of Stroud for engineering, maintenance, and cleaning of the tower. The Water Department filled the 100,000-gallon water tower the day after refurbishments were complete.
Along with some cleaning, the tower also got a new look with a tiger painting on it. It’s the town mascot, and Pearman said the shape and color fit the tower perfectly. He added that they have plans to light the tower and spotlight their mascot as part of the Route 66 grant the city received.
