Chandler High School seniors Andrew Alsip and Sarah Goodman have been named November Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club.
Andrew, the son of Andy Alsip and Kathryn Alsip, has been a student at the Pre-Engineering Academy at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee, Okla., since 2019.
He takes concurrent classes in Calculus I at Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla.
He is a member of both the National Technical School and National High School Honor Societies. Regularly listed on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll, he earned an Aca demic Excellence Award for Advanced Placement English III and the President’s Award for Education Excellence.
Andrew serves as historian of the SkillsUSA chapter at GCTC and was a participant in the GCTC Quiz Bowl. He was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors.
A member of the CHS Chess Club, he took third place at the Oklahoma Scholastic Blitz Chess Tournament.
Andrew helps his community by assisting the elderly with household jobs and lawn care and helping pick up litter around the area. He distributed treats for Main Street merchants at Halloween.
Following graduation, Andrew wants to work toward a degree in Computer Science or Wildlife/ Forestry Management.
Sarah Goodman is the daughter of Mike and Stephanie Goodman and holds a 3.9 grade point average while taking advanced classes in English and Chemistry. A participant of the CHS Gifted and Talented Program, she has earned an invitation to the Academic Banquet for three years and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Sarah was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. She has shown leadership capabilities while serving as Student Council vice president, Cheer captain and Choir president.
A seven-year member of the CHS Choir, she helped the choir earn superior ratings at Oklahoma Secondary Schools Athletic Association District and State Choir contests.
She also participated in Archery and Postponing Sexual Involvement.
Sarah has served the community through the Ice Cream Festival, Crawfish Boil, Relay 4 Life and the Veterans Day Assembly. She worked the Food Pantry for First Baptist Church of Chandler and participated in Stomp Out Starvation.
In addition to her schoolwork and extracurricular activities, she has been employed at Hite Drug and Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
After graduating, Sarah plans to attend college to complete basic requirements before attending mortician school to become a funeral director working toward a career in the funeral business.
