Chandler High School seniors Sarah Goodman and Dalton Fowble were named student members of the Rotary Club for September 2021.
Sarah Goodman is the daughter of Mike and Stephanie Goodman. She has one older sibling.
With a plan to pursue a career as a funeral director, she has prepared for life after high school by getting work experience and learning how to save money. She will further her education at East Central University in Ada, Okla.
She was chosen to participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp, which was held in a virtual setting during the 2020 Pandemic shutdowns.
Sarah is a member of National Honor Society and was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. Her leadership potential has been evident serving a year as choir president and student council vice president and two years as cheer captain.
She also participated in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; Postponing Sexual Involvement; and archery. Her volunteer work includes the Chandler Ice Cream Festival, Crawfish Boil, Relay 4 Life and Stomp Out Starvation.
Sarah credits her parents for always teaching her to serve others before self. She has taken the opportunities available to be a part of many service projects but says the most meaningful for her was Stomp Out Starvation.
Through FCCLA, Sarah joined other students spending a whole day preparing bags of rice to send to families in other countries who live in unfortunate circumstances. Measuring ingredients, weighing the bags, sealing them and packing them into boxes gave the students time to think about the family that would be fed because of their work. Preparing hundreds of bags and filling lots of boxes was tiring work but at the end of the day, Sarah says she felt great knowing the she was making a difference and would love the chance to do it again.
Dalton Fowble, the son of Eric and Virginia Fowble, is the second oldest of four children.
Following graduation, he plans to study at Seminole State College with a major in business and management. He has already earned 12 credit hours by taking two concurrent college classes.
He has participated in Business Professionals of America, Postponing Sexual Involvement and Positive Peers. Dalton has volunteered in the community through the food bank and his church youth group. He also helped with the Main Street Cleanup.
Dalton says he has been raised to keep an expectation of service in mind, whether that is within his church, his community or for his parents with his daily chore list. At times, he didn’t see the value in spending time setting up for a church event, taking someone a meal or participating in an all-day community fundraiser because it seemed to take away from the things he wanted to do.
He realized the importance of serving others while volunteering at both the Chosen House and the Food Bank. He realized then that what he was doing was making a difference in someone else’s life and it wasn’t just about himself.
Dalton says he learned that Service Above Self is when you sacrifice of yourself and know that you are making a difference in the life of someone else.
