The McLoud City Council has agreed to leave duck hunting and deer hunting areas the same for this year, but beginning in January of 2022 that will change.
The action came during a recent special meeting of the council.
McLoud City Manager Buck Day explained, “Hunting areas will stay the same for this season. We will leave it alone,” he added.
However, beginning next year, in January of 2022, duck and deer hunting around Wes Watkins Lake will be limited to residents from Pottawatomie, Lincoln, Cleveland and Oklahoma Counties, Day said.
“Next year we will have two designated areas for daily duck hunting,” Day said.
Day also noted that next year there will be a designated area for small game hunts for squirrel and rabbits with BB guns and air rifles.
“There will be no shotguns or other rifles,” he stated.
In other action, the Council has agreed to the placement of a couple of basketball goals by the city.
“We’re going to build two 25 feet by 50 feet concrete pads with a basketball goal on each of them,” Day said.
“One will be on the south end of Veterans Park and the other on the north end of the park,” he explained.
The Council also has voted to purchase a 2014 F250 Ford not to exceed $16,000 and a 2017 Explorer not to exceed $13,000, Day said.
