Thank you to the Lion’s Club for their hard work in putting the flags out on President’s Day in the yards of those who subscribe to this program. This is a great fund raiser. It is not without lots of effort on the members’ part to keep this project going. They get up early on five patriotic holidays and have the flags in the ground by sunrise and return to pick them up at sundown. I love seeing all those flags as I drive around town and the City putting the flags up on Main Street just adds to the patriotism of our small town. My brother Gary wanted to be a part of this and had just paid his $25. He did not live to see his first flag in his yard, but it was comforting to us to see it there. Thank you to James Bond and Kent Clovis for making sure this happened.
The American Legion Auxiliary would like to thank Principal James Wells, the teachers/staff at Parkview Elementary and the students for making Valentine’s Day cards for the Auxiliary to mail to each of our fifty plus Legion members. The Auxiliary was appreciative for the help to make sure our veterans were remembered. They also made cards for the residents of Prairie Pointe and Stroud Health Care Center. I know those cards put a smile on the residents’ faces.
Our community is heartbroken for Mike and Annita Vandever over the loss of their family restaurant, Dan’s BBQ, in Davenport. They have been operating the restaurant since the 1980’s.
Dan Thompson started the restaurant in the 1970’s so it has been a Route 66 staple for over 50 years. It’s been a favorite eating establishment of Stroud citizens for many years, and we are going to sorely miss it.
As a community, we need to reach out and see if there is anything we can do to help during this transition time.
Thank you to everyone for the love shown to my family during the recent death of my brother Gary.
For a town our size I feel we have suffered more than our fair share of deaths from this pandemic. As I grieve for Gary, I grieve, too, for the many friends in this community who have also lost a loved one to COVID.
We have received several donations for the Bugle Boy so Town Talk will continue to work on this project alongside finishing our golf course.
David Evans, and his crew of one, are working to finish the club house. Watch out Spring – we might just be ready to open.
Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local……………………….first!
