Town Talk volunteers are selling bricks in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park at the Veteran’s Memorial.
Several people have inquired if they could still purchase a brick in the Memorial and the answer is now yes!
We have many bricks that are already in place but have not yet been inscribed. Nelson Monument of Guthrie will travel to Stroud and to etch the inscription once a minimum of twenty bricks have been sold.
The cost of a brick with inscription is $65. You may contact any Town Talk volunteer or call me at 918-527-9833 to place your order.
Anyone may order a brick – you do not have to be a veteran to have a brick in the Memorial.
I attended Parkview Elementary School’s end-of-year carnival last week and had a great time with August and Lincoln.
While at the school our local firemen delivered smoke detectors to the schools. Each child received one with a note on it that said, “on behalf of private donors and the Stroud Fire Department we are providing your family with a free smoke detector.”
What a great community service project. Thank you to everyone responsible for this endeavor to keep our children and their families safe.
Town Talk volunteers and the American Legion Auxiliary are asking anyone who would like to volunteer to come help us place flags on all veterans’ graves for Memorial Day on Thursday, May 25th.
We will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Stroud Cemetery. Come join us and bring your kids with you. It is a great activity and opportunity for parents to talk to their children about our veterans and the sacrifices they have made for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Town Talk offers its condolences to the family of Billie Jean (Skaggs) Black who died on May 1, 2023. Billie was a graduate of the Stroud High School class of 1952 and was a life-long resident of Stroud. She owned and operated her own dress shop, Billie’s Fashion, on Main Street for over 30 years. Billie will be missed in our community.
It’s nice to know one of our very own beauty salon operators, Janelle Kinnamon, is back behind the chair once again “dolling up” the women of Stroud. Janelle took a nasty fall a few months back and has been off recuperating. She is back to business as usual so give her a call. Glad to hear she is doing well.
Someone posted on Facebook a few days again that Kidsj Convenience Store in Stroud has the best biscuits and gravy in the county. I didn’t even know they sold this item so I thought many of you might not know it either.
Might be something to taste test the next time you wake up craving a good old-fashioned breakfast. Also, did you know if you fill your car up at Dollar General on Sunday with a Dollar General gift card, you save six cents off each gallon of gas purchased? This is another thing I learned this week. See how much we can learn about our merchants if we just take the time to shop locally, first.
Activities for the week include City Council meeting 6:00 p.m. Thursday May 11th, Stroud Clothing Ministry on West Route 66 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday May 11th, Stroud Little League 12U baseball game Thursday May 11th 6:00 p.m. in Luther and Mc-Cammon 8U baseball at Davenport 7:15 p.m., Parkview Elementary graduation Friday May 12th 7:00 p.m., Masonic Lodge breakfast at Ag building 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Saturday May 13th, Bristow Tabouleh Festival and Davenport Alumni Festival/Nettie Davenport Day both Saturday May 13th, and Mother’s Day Sunday May 13th, Stroud Little League 12U baseball game against Cushing at Stroud 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 15th and McCammon 8U baseball game against Luther in Stroud on Monday May 15th.
Bragging is not really a trait that I consider admirable, but I must put my prejudices aside and brag a little. My oldest grandchildren Madeline Hudson of Bartlesville graduated this past Saturday from Tulsa University. She was awarded an academic scholarship to attend TU, graduated in three years and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Needless to say, Larry and I were both exceptionally proud of her. I attended school for six and a half years to earn my bachelor’s degree, so I think it’s safe to say I wasn’t on the fast track. I’m glad Madeline takes after her grandpa.
The Stroud Food Pantry/Stroud Masonic Lodge will be hosting a Hot Dog Fundraiser on Saturday, May 27th from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Main Street Pavilion. They will also be holding a raffle with great prizes from our local merchants.
Check with any Food Pantry volunteer to purchase your tickets for the raffle.
A big shout out and congratulations to the Stroud High School girls’ track team. They won the 2023 Oklahoma Class 2A Girls Track & Field State Championship.
This is the first time this has been accomplished in the history of Stroud Schools.
Congratulations to Coach Kelly Brown and her team for a job well done!
Just a reminder that Mother’s Day is this Sunday. Buy your mom flowers, a gift, lunch, take her to church and tell her you love her.
What more could a mom want and what more could our local merchants want than you to make all those purchases right here in your hometown.
Thank you for choosing to shop local………..first!
