My wife Pat had been discussing recently that she wanted more color in the front flower bed. She had some yellow pansies in it, but they weren’t showing up like she wanted.
She had thought about going to get some new flowers the weekend before last. However, we had grandson Liam and we knew it might be a little difficult to do that.
So, last Saturday, it was time to go get flowers, potting mix and mulch so she could plant them. Pat kept saying she was worried about the selection she could find since it was past the middle of June.
But there was a nice variety, she said.
My role is pushing the cart, keeping up with her so I can load the flowers and plants into it, getting the potting mix and mulch in the cart and then into the car along with her flowers for the ride home.
She picks out all the flowers. She’s the expert. I have a little knowledge of the different types of flowers.
She knows all about the different plants and flowers she puts in the ground and in the pots. Pat knows if they are heat tolerant or not, and all that sort of thing.
She also had decided we needed a little more color on the back patio as well.
So we went to another store across town and she picked out a couple of new flower pots, one medium size, another smaller, for the additional patio flowers.
Once we got back to the house, I unloaded them and placed them where she wants them and can easily grab them.
I made sure she had the bag of potting mix where it was handy for her.
She needs no help in planting the flowers. In fact, that is off limits for me and I just soon it be.
Then, for a little bit, my job was finished before picking up the containers, empty bags, and helping place down the mulch to maintain the moisture.
Last Saturday was a pretty hot day. Even though the humidity wasn’t too bad, there was practically no breeze. I noticed Pat was getting pretty hot so I sent her into the cool house and suggest she stay there.
In the meantime, I started sweeping the sidewalk and straightening up.
Later, after she cooled off, she decided she needed to plant the new patio flowers. Once she did that, she was finished being in the sun and heat that day.
I had some more sweeping and picking up to do and then I gathered up the tools and placed them back where they belong.
It was a good day and the mission had been achieved.
