Letter to the editor

I moved to Tryon in 1970 - a small town where people took care of their yards and homes. Main Street was busy, a bank, post office, two cafes, Napa store, hardware store, grocery store, feed store, tire repair, car wash and a few more businesses.

I attended two town board meetings, wanting to know more about the town. On the second meeting, the town board members had voted to ask me to become the town clerk. (The town clerk had passed away.)

I finished the two-year term left, then I would be voted on by a town election.I did agree to this at $25 per month.

I served for 12 years. We had board members that cared about the citizens of our town. Not once did my record book show any problems after being audited.

After 12 years my income been voted and approved to $125 per month. I lost the election by two votes. At that time, it was good because my husband had become the law officer for the town of Agra and we had to move to Agra.

This bad problem would not have happened if the citizens would have attended meetings and asked questions. I feel bad for this little town that ued to be a good place to live.
