A Letter from a Meeker Citizen,
Early in the week, when I heard of the firing of Meeker’s Town Administrator, Dickie Walton, I imagined all kinds of misdeeds on his part.
As I learned from The Lincoln County News today, there were no charges of any kind leveled against Walton. At least, he was not told of any. Then he was treated as a criminal when he came to his office to get his personal items.
I am terribly unhappy and ashamed of a town council who would treat anyone (and particularly the Town Administrator) in the malicious way Walton was dealt with.
In the 50 plus years I’ve lived and taught school in Meeker, I have never seen a Town Administrator who has gone “over and above” his duties to bring improvements, new ideas, monies through numerous grants, and strong support for Meeker Celebrations and local Activities.
Walton’s wife, Connie, has also worked alongside him for these four years to escalate Meeker’s positive prestige with Meeker citizens and those passing through Meeker.
I definitely feel that our Town Council has failed Meeker in a way that will influence our future in a negative way. I hope I can be proved wrong.
