I want to apologize to the members of Stroud’s St. Louis Catholic Church for leaving them off the list of people and organizations who fed the students from Creighton University a few weeks back.
I want people who read this paper to know all the good things going on in Stroud and from time to time, when giving thanks, I leave someone off.
I try to correct it when I discover the error because I want everyone contributing to make Stroud “the best place it can be” to get the credit they deserve.
So, a great big belated thank you to our hometown Catholic Church.
Richard Evans is our latest veteran to be added to our Veterans’ Walk of Honor on Main Street.
He shares a banner with Mickey Gaines. Richard was a pilot during WWII and his aircraft was shot down but thankfully Richard survived the attack.
He and his wife Hallie Rives Evans were lifelong residents of Stroud. Their children, Marilyn Evans LaGere and David Evans both graduated from Stroud High School.
David still resides in Stroud and is an active member of Town Talk. This organization could not do many of the things they do without David’s manpower and carpentry prowess.
I have the privilege of teaching the fourth and fifth grade Sunday School at First Baptist Church.
The young people in my class are attentive and interested in learning what the Bible has to teach them, but they also love getting together as friends and having a good time.
We enjoyed a Halloween get-together this past Sunday after church. They were treated to pizza and ice cream and enjoyed playing games.
Those attending were Gideon Smalley, Brennyn Neely, Aryn Cockrum, Emily Whitson, Beau Presley, Jaxon Presley, Cassidy Waltman and J. T. Alexander.
First Bank and Trust Company hosted a flag raising ceremony for the new flag they have recently installed on the bank property.
It is a huge flag that makes a big statement about our community and the pride we have in our State, Country and our veterans.
Thank you to the bank for this wonderful addition to Main Street.
Joy Grant hosted an 80th birthday party in Milfay this past Sunday for her father, Jim Grant. It was a surprise party and a big crowd showed up to wish Jim a happy birthday.
The Grants are lifelong residents of Milfay and have a large extended family with many attending from near and far. Stroud graduate Janet Place Huwar and her husband Tom drove in from Texas and her sister, the former Beverly Place, was also in attendance.
All those attending enjoyed a delicious dinner. Those folks from Milfay know how to put on a feed!
Have a great week and always remember to check out our local merchants and restaurants before heading out of town.
We probably have what you’re looking for right here in Stroud.
Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop local………….first!
