Town Talk

I did a little snooping around and found out that Head Start is moving its offices to Main Street into the building that was the former Sparks Winery tasting room.

There have been a few other businesses in it since the tasting room, but the building is owned by J. L. Gilbert of the Sparks Winery.

It is such a nice building with the courtyard beside it, so it will be nice to see that it will soon be occupied again.

My nephew, Jason Smalley and his family suffered a fire to their home this past week.

No definitive reports as yet but it appears to have started in the garage and traveled through the attic.

Luckily it happened about 4 p.m. and no one was hurt. Jason and C’Anne both bragged on our fire department, how quickly they responded and how professional and thorough they were. We are a lucky community to have quality emergency resources available to us.

My buddy and dear friend, Steve Bivin, celebrated a birthday this week. Steve and his wife, Julie, are always generous supporters of community projects. He is retired from the United States Navy along with several personal businesses and is active in his church, American Legion and Lion’s Club. He recently received his 50-year Lion’s Pin and is a lifetime member.

Originally a Cleveland/Drumright guy but has called Stroud home since 1992. If you see him, be sure to wish him a belated happy birthday. Let’s keep the celebration going.

If you drive by the mini-golf course you can see David has begun work on the club house. Julie Bivin and I assisted him, but David is the work horse on this project. It’s going to be a nice addition to the project. It has been a “slow process” project but we will finish it eventually. I think it will be something Stroud can be proud of and will give our kiddos some entertainment.

I heard Santa stopped by Ruby’s this past Sunday. I hope if you happened to see him you told him to add me to his “nice” list.

Don’t forget to check out our hometown businesses and restaurants for all your last-minute Christmas needs.

You’ve got only ten days to wrap it up – no pun intended.

Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop local………………………first!
