Town Talk

Thank you to everyone who volunteered and donated to Wreaths Across Stroud.

It was a wonderful tribute to our deceased veterans. The American Legion Auxiliary could not have undertaken this project without the help of each of you.

Thank you to all program participants who gave up an unusually beautiful Sunday in December to be a part of Wreaths Across America.

Those on the program were Pastor Jerry Murfin, City Council member Debbie Garrett, Pastor Will Fine. Aleta Smalley, Danielle Stangl, Diana Reed, and Stacey Glenn.

Volunteers helping with wreaths and preparations for the event were David Evans, Alison Emmons, Elaine Buerger, Rhonda Franklin, Terry Franklin, Cindy Hickman, Sharon Mitchell, Sue Ann Prater, Keith Prater, Lynn Carter, and David Carroll along with ALA members Marsha Morgan, Andresa Thompson, Julie Bivin, Aleta Smalley, Pam Hunt, Delores Hamlin, Cindy Mason, Diana McGuire, and Linda Waller.

My apologies to Lynn Carter for not mentioning her at the ceremony as one of our volunteers. Lynn works for Head Start and is a co-worker of Diana McGuire’s. Lynn participates, donates, and supports all ALA and Town Talk activities.

We know we can always count on Lynn. All 788 veterans should have had a wreath placed on their grave so if you know of someone we accidentally missed, please notify me at 918-527-9833 and we will take a wreath out to the cemetery.

We have twelve wreaths left over and we shouldn’t have any so we may have inadvertently missed someone. Please let us know.

Don’t forget Santa is making a stop in Stroud this Saturday, December 22nd.

He will be at Newnam’s Automotive from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Stop by and chat with him and maybe you can get him to take you off the “naughty” list.

Stroud alum Sammy Mayfield and his wife Marie, who we claim as an alum, were in town Tuesday to decorate their loved one’s graves at the cemetery.

They took my mom out for coffee at our local coffee shop, Gathering Grounds Coffee. After coffee and before heading to the cemetery they stopped by Unique OK so Marie could do a little shopping.

Sammy and Marie live in Edmond but drive to Stroud to shop. Now that’s what I call loyal alums!

It’s a quiet week in Stroud with our schools closed for Christmas break and only three more days until Christmas.

Stop by any of our local merchants to pick up those last-minute Christmas gifts. I’m sure they can help you find just what you’re looking for.

Take time to attend the church of your choice on Sunday, Christmas Eve, and let’s all celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Town Talk wishes you a Merry Christmas and once again reminds you to shop local……… first!
