My wife Pat and I journeyed down to our little place at the lake this past weekend. It was the first time since last fall that we had been able to go down there.
Normally we drive down either late Friday afternoon or early evening and come back on Sunday.
We waited this time until about mid-morning Saturday to leave and head down and that got us there around noon or so.
I’d gone down last December with a friend Gary Barnett to winterize our trailers. He and his wife Charlotte have one right next to ours.
So this being Pat’s and my first trip this summer, we had several things to do.
First was to put the plug in the trailer to hold the water in when I turned the well on. But this turned out to be quite an ordeal.
Pat and I worked for over an hour on trying to get that plug back in and after we thought we had it in, I went to hook up one end of the hose to the well and the other to the trailer.
That was the easy part or I least I thought so. There was a problem though, no water was coming out of the well faucet. I could see the well faucet had been changed out because the old one was nearby.
With no water, we knew we couldn’t stay.
So, we hopped back in the car and drove up to the office to report out predicament.
The woman (Pamela) in the office was very accommodating. She quickly texted the maintenance guy and told me he should be at our trailer within 30 minutes or so.
Sure enough, Carey showed up in a little bit. He, too, discovered that the well wasn’t working, though he had replaced the well faucet and done some other work on it.
Rather than dig it all up Saturday, he checked to see if Gary and Charlotte’s was working. It was. Since they were out of town and not down there, he used one of our hoses to run it from their well and hooked into the hose that goes into our trailer.
He said he would come back and fix the problem sometime this week. That problem was solved.
Then, seeing that our plug wasn’t in good, he took to fixing that. It took him a little while, he even had to make a trip back to the shop by the office, but he got it fixed.
We had water for the weekend. Pat insists I get a new plug for the trailer so at some point we can change it.
By the time the water woes were fixed, it was already after 2:30. So we headed into town to have lunch at one of our favorite eating spots and afterwards stopped and picked up some groceries before heading back to our trailer.
We sat around outside that evening and some neighbors came by and visited. We had a good time, got a good night’s sleep and enjoyed our coffee Sunday morning before eating breakfast.
We headed for home later that morning. Once we got the water problems solved, it was smooth sailing.
Pat and I agreed it was relaxing and nice for a short stay away.
