Well, Easter was certainly different this year but we at Prairie Pointe were blessed by many people who helped make our day special.
Lily plants were received from several special friends; Lisa Gordon provided farm fresh eggs, each with the Lanky’s Farm chicken stamp of authenticity, which were transformed into yummy deviled eggs by Chef Jennifer; and J R Owens had Cathy Terry at Unique OK bring us scrumptious homemade cherry, peach and apple fried pies to top off our Easter feast.
Wirt Trawick brought our Easter message from Mark 15-16 and explained why Easter, unlike Christmas, or Valentine’s Day, falls on a different date each year.
Christ’s return from the grave following his crucifixion, can occur on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25.
Easter’s exact date varies so much because it actually depends on the moon.
Early Christians wanted Easter to coincide with Passover, because Christ’s death and resurrection happened after the Jewish holiday.
Because the Jewish calendar is tied to solar and lunar cycles, the dates of Passover and Easter fluctuate each year.
Prairie Pointe received a generous donation last week which will be used to construct a rustic water feature in the back yard.
The idea is to have water circulating through an antique cast iron hand water pump into multiple tiers of rocks ponds. Many of us remember using such a hand pump –you were lucky if it was in the house but usually it was situated somewhere near the back door. You remember……on the way to the “bath at the end of the path.”
If you have one of these relics and would like to donate it to our project, please let us know.
We also are on the lookout for metal wagon wheels and an old pull-type planter or plow to add to our outdoor décor.
Opened in May of 2016, Prairie Pointe is a 24-unit assisted living community owned and operated by the City of Stroud and the Stroud Hospital and Development Authority.
SHDA board members include Adam Chace, Debbie Garrett, Tammy Smith, Bill Ash and Ken Carpenter.
It is the only facility of its kind in Lincoln County and offers seniors their independence knowing that assistance is nearby when they need it.
If you or a loved one is considering this lifestyle, please call Lisa Gordon, Administrator and Director of Nursing or Clara Hodgens for a complimentary lunch and tour.
