A happy third birthday

Our grandson Liam turned 3 years old on Tuesday. Wow, that just doesn’t seem possible, but it is.

His little birthday party was last Sunday at our daughter and son-in-law’s home in Norman.

Liam’s first birthday party was at our house.

Last year some close friends of ours offered to our daughter Meghan and her husband Terry to host the party at their place.

Meghan does everything she can to ensure her son’s birthday party is as near perfect as possible and my wife Pat is no exception to that as well.

This year’s celebration was a couple days before Liam’s actual birthday. It was also a much smaller one with only a few family members participating.

In comparison, at his first birthday party at our house we had 31 people. A year ago for his second birthday there was at least that many.

We took Pat’s mother to this year’s little gathering and she seemed to enjoy it. With her there, we had four generations of Pat’s family for the party.

My mother-in-law, who is 95, has attended each of her great-grandson’s birthdays.

Pat and I were able to help out Meghan and Terry by keeping little Liam Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday until time to take him home for his own party.

While it helped Meghan and Terry, it was a special treat for Gigi and granddad (that’s us in case you’re wondering).

It’s always a treat to have him around. We also had the pleasure of keeping him part of the previous weekend.

Liam keeps us busy and enjoys playing and messing around with the most simple things.

When we got him home Sunday for his birthday celebration, one of the first things he spotted was the balloons Meghan had done and tied together in two different places and the homemade cupcakes topped with blue icing. He was enthralled with those balloons from the time he saw them.

He also wanted to start in on the cupcakes but that was for later.

Meghan and Terry had decided pizza was the best idea for supper and she had prepared snacks to eat beforehand.

After everyone had gathered and Liam and his cousin Hunter had played with the balloons and some of Liam’s other toys, we ate pizza and then it was time for him to open his presents.

He received several toys and he and Hunter played with them. Later, we had the cupcakes, which by the way were delicious. Finally, it was time for us to head back to Shawnee.

What a great little celebration we enjoyed. He’s still too young to realize what it’s all about, but at least we have photos and videos he can see as he gets older and for us to always remember.
