Great news! Town Talk’s Bugle Boy has been ordered. We had enough funds left over from another project to make the down payment. That gets the price locked in and begins the process. It will take about six months for him to be completed. At the end of that six months, we will pay the balance. Town Talk’s grand opening for the miniature golf course will be Memorial Day weekend. Once that is completed, we will begin “official” fundraising for the Bugle Boy, even though we will take donations at any time. Donations should be made out to Town Talk and mailed to 301 West 6th Street, Stroud, OK 74079. I want to thank Gary’s friends and family for their love gifts to this project. I am getting the total needed which includes the sound system. I will give you an update in next week’s paper letting you know the total cost of the project and how much we’ve raised to date. Town Talk could not accomplish all the wonderful things we’ve done for our community without the help of each and everyone one of you who also shares our love for Stroud. We can never thank you enough.
As Rosanne Roseannadanna used to always say, “It’s always something.” We had some rain last week and so we discovered the roof on our miniature golf clubhouse leaks a little. Just when you think you’re about finished with a project, you discover there’s a little more to do. David Evans is our carpenter extraordinaire, so he is on it and working to solve the problem. Town Talk couldn’t do what we do without David. All our volunteers are special people who give of their time to help our community. Thank you to each of you who donate your time to help Stroud.
I received a text from Clara Hodgens this week. She said she read an article in the Tulsa World about a delightful perennial flower called Uptick Coreopsis. She contacted one of our local greenhouses and they ordered it for her, and it was arriving in a few days. Her comment was, “Is this a great town or what!” She’s exactly right, it is.
Our small community has not only one, but two, greenhouses so I’m sure you can find all your summer gardening needs right here locally. Patton’s Produce at the east end of Main and Unique Market off Main on 5th Avenue will have everything you need or maybe can get it for you if you just ask. Like I’ve said before, if you don’t see what you need on the shelves of our local merchants, ask if they can order it for you. They are more than willing to help.
Spring Break for Stroud schools starts this Friday so as the signs around town say, “Drive like your children live here” is a great mantra and no better time to heed that while students are on spring break. We are not accustomed to having them out playing during the week, so pay special attention and watch out for our kiddos.
Upcoming community activities include Masonic Lodge Breakfast this Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Agricultural Building, Stroud Food Pantry open Tuesday, March 15th from 9:00 a.m. until noon and Saint Patrick’s Day is coming up Thursday, March 17th so be sure and wear your green to avoid getting pinched.
Have a great week and as always, remember to shop and dine local……………first
