Ice cold Johnny Freezes are in the freezer just waiting for you to cool down after a round of golf.

For all players who make a hole-in-one, get ready to don our Hole-in-One Hat and have your picture taken for our distinguished Wall of Honor. Hope to see you at the first tee!

Bricks are still available for purchase for $65 at the Veteran’s Memorial in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park. We have sold 30 bricks, so they are scheduled to come do the engraving. Order your brick today so you can be included in this first round of orders.

You do not have to live in Stroud, be a graduate of Stroud schools or be a veteran to have a brick in the memorial. Anyone may purchase a brick!

Veteran’s banners are still available for purchase, also. The cost is $125 for one side of the banner. Cindy Quandel Dickinson and her siblings recently honored their dad with a banner, and it should be displayed in the next week.

Cindy’s parents were Ivan and Leona Quandel, and both were active members of the Legion and Auxiliary. Ivan passed away in 1975 at the young age of 55 years. He was a veteran of World War II.

Town Talk continues to raise money for our sound system for Stroud’s Bugle Boy statue.

As soon as we purchase it, we will schedule a formal dedication. The cost of the system is $6,000 and we are halfway there.

My mom has always told me, “Inch by inch, anything’s a cinch!” We are definitely getting there – in inches!

Town Talk wishes one of our favorites a big Happy Birthday. Our mighty firecracker, Maxine Henshaw, celebrated her birthday on July 4th.

Maxine has been a big supporter of Town Talk projects. She is also one of the many new friends I have made while volunteering in the community. If you don’t know Maxine, you’re missing a treat!

I continue to be amazed at all the support Town Talk receives from locals as well as friends and alums near and far and many businesses.

This past week I had another heart-warming experience. Julie and Steve Bivin were in Tulsa on business, so my husband and I met them for lunch. After lunch Julie and I decided to go to Hobby Lobby to see if they had tiles we could use to put children’s handprints on with paint.

This is one more project we’ve been working on for the pocket park on Main Street, Pete’s Place.

Our salesclerk told us she did not have tiles, but we should visit Floor & Décor in the next shopping strip because they had some for twenty-nine cents a tile.

We proceeded to Floor & Décor and asked a salesclerk, not realizing she was actually the manager, if she had any “cheap” tile.

She showed us $2.48 tile and said she could let us have it for $1.00 a tile. Julie and I looked at each other and hemmed and hawed a little because we knew we had to do everything on tight a budget. Brandi Prater, the person helping us, then asked how many we needed, and we told her about fifty. We told her about our group, Town Talk, and how we tried to do things to help our small community.

She then said, “I’ll just donate them to you.” Julie and I were overwhelmed with her generosity – not in the dollar amount but at her huge heart that was willing to help two strangers from a small town outside what is her normal sales area.

This world is still filled with kind people and Town Talk experiences this on a regular basis. I told Julie that people who don’t do volunteer work miss out on some wonderful blessings. Of course, we all became best friends and Brandi shared with us her husband is a 52-year told veteran who is currently in the hospital battling stomach cancer.

She asked us to pray for him, which we committed to do so I’m asking you to pray for him, also.

Brandi stated she hopes the kindness she shows manifests comes back to her and her husband. Let’s support them through our prayers!

Have a great week and thank you for shopping local…………………….. first!
