Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on Highway 18

A. ODOT is still laying the third two-inch asphalt overlay. We are noticing the rock being applied at the shoulders of the asphalt for the lateral support.

2. Update on Fireworks Display

A. The city workers have been mowing again all week at the lake. We are a little concerned about the next rainy spell. The Weather Analysts are calling for sunny & 92° on Saturday for the Fireworks. Remember this is the make up show. It will be held Saturday, August 21st at approx. 9 PM. Events start at 7 PM with music, singing, vendors, food trucks, games, turtle racing, kiddie rides, bouncy houses, free ice cream, snow cones, hot dogs, water & much, much more. Let’s try to set another new attendance record. Last year was over 2,000. Our local Fire Dept. will be prepared for fire & safety and our Meeker Police Dept. will handle parking & traffic control. Let’s keep it up! Thank you Chamber!

3. Update on Library

A. Books are our friends.

B. Remember to call the library for info. on the upcoming Bunko party. (405) 279-1139.

4. Update on Annexation

A. This will be on the Trustees’ Agenda for the meeting on August 16th for discussion. More to come about this.

5. Update on COVID-Delta

A. Are there so many that they are naming them like they do hurricanes? I will be glad when they blow out & leave us alone. But until they do; Let’s keep on our (S.O.P.’s), Standard Operating Procedure of keeping the 6’ social distancing, washing hands for at least 20 seconds & often, & face masks are optional. Continue to keep homes, cars, & work areas clean & keep them wiped down with a Lysol type 99.9% that kills viruses & bacteria.

6. Update on Open Trustee Seat

A. We have one that has thrown a Hat in the Ring.

B. If you are interested in helping the Town with discussions for the next 3 years, please call me at City Hall for details. (405) 279-3320.

7. Update on Growth & Development

A. Contact Vonda, Sandy, Melissa, Teresa & help with the Pumpkin Festival that the group is planning. Sounds like a fun time. Lots of vendors, music, gun fights, corn hole games. This year check out the Scare Crow contest, October 2nd. Check for rules about the contest.

8. Update on New Fire Station Flagpole

A. The 30’ tall flagpole has arrived. Sponsored by the Woodmen Group.

B. The Town has the sand, rock & concrete to install the mounting sleeve. Then 2 -3 days drying time & up goes the pole & new flag.

C. The Chamber will conduct a Red Ribbon cutting & dedication for Meeker’s newest facility. More details on all this to come. Stay tuned.

9. Update on Grants

A. We had Infrastructure Solutions Group, LLC. in town this week helping us with the CDBG Grant of $150,000, for new water lines. They will be preparing mapping for the new water lines to be placed. These water lines will go in after the 17,000 linear of sewer lines & in their proper place. The Sewer & Water Line projects will take approx. 2 -3 years. Hope our kids & grandkids will appreciate all that we are doing not only for us but for the generations down the road. We do need to give credit where credit is due & the old sewer & water lines have served us well for approx. 5 generations.

10. Update on Family & Neighbors

A. I have not mentioned this in a while, but I think it is time to do so again. We know we cannot choose our Family, but we can choose our Friends & Neighbors. As our Good Book advises us, to Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself. It just may be time for us to take that step on the higher road & place some of these things in action before people pass on & we regret we didn’t make amends for some of these actions. I know the World would be a Better Place. So just call your Dad, Mom or Child & say “Hi!” Please remember life is too short. Life is just a vapor or a mist.

See you at the Lake, August 21st, dark thirty for the Fireworks Display!!
