Chandler’s season ended Friday night as the Marlow Outlaws showed why they’re undefeated and headed for the state quarterfinals.
After Chandler scored on a long drive on its opening possession, the Outlaws put up 38 unanswered points and gradually pulled away, taking a 38-7 victory.
It was the second year in a row for Marlow to eliminate Chandler, following a 31-28 Outlaw win in the third round of the playoffs this season.
Marlow is now 12-0 and faces Cascia Hall Friday night.
The opening drive was a methodical 80-yard march by Chandler.
Senior quarterback Kaden Jones threw a couple of key completions to fellow senior Jarin Greenfield, then scored on a one-yard run. Greenfield’s kick made it 7-0.
Marlow scored on the ensuing completion and then kept going, scoring on all of its possessions of the first half and taking a 24-7 lead at the half.
Chandler got some stops in the second half and had a chance to slice the lead after stopping the Outlaws on downs.
The Lions would have had good field position, but they were flagged for a substitution violation that gave the Outlaws a first down and continued possession.
Jace Gilbert, Marlow’s quarterback, turned that into a 53-yard touchdown run that made the score 31-7 with 1:20 left in the third quarter.
Chandler finishes with an 8-4 record.
The Lions endured a series of injuries early in the season and were 2-3 halfway through the schedule, but closed out the regular season with five straight wins and added one in the playoffs.
