Lincoln and Pott county athletes will be heading across Oklahoma this week for state competitions with the prospects of bringing home a lot of hardware.
The first out of the box is North Rock Creek’s defending state champion Lady Cougars, who played in the Class 4A slow-pitch softball tournament Tuesday at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. The tournament ended after our deadline for this week’s edition, so we’ll have photos and results in next week’s paper.
Dale and Prague played on Wednesday and were headed for a possible rematch. Dale bested Prague in last year’s state tournament and finished state runnerup.
The state golf tournaments started on Wednesday and will wind up Thursday. Prague’s Elle Standlee competed at the Class 3A tournament, held at Lake Murray Golf Course, south of Ardmore. Abigail Hurst from North Rock Creek played in the Class 4A tournament at Prairie West Golf Course.
State track competitions start Friday, with Stroud and Meeker athletes heading to the Class 2A championship at Western Heights.
Among them are multiple regional champions, with Stroud’s Kileigh Mixon and Meeker’s Riley Randall having won three regional titles.
Mixon won the high jump, long jump and 100 hurdles at the Stroud regional and joined the 4x100 relay team win a fourth title. Randall won the 800, 1600 and 3200 at Okemah.
Stroud’s girls 4x200 relay team of Kenlee Parrick, Audrey Donaldson, Mattie James and Peyton Davis will take special momentum in the meet, having broken a 44-year-old school record at the regional meet.
Parrick, Davis and James teamed with Mixon to win the 4x100.
Parrick won an individual championship in the pole vault and Bryce Collins won the 100 hurdles in the boys meet.
Chandler, Prague and North Rock Creek drive to Ardmore for the Class 4A and 3A meets.
The Chandler girls, who took second in the regional, have several individual champions, including James Davis, who two: the 110 and 300 hurdles.
Sophomore Cali Hilgenfeld won the 100 meters, Carson Jackson won the 400 and Cassie Wright won the 3200.
Wright, Hilgenfeld, Lila McGough and Jackson teamed to win the 4x800 relay.
For Prague, Liyah Dauman won the long jump at the Plainview regional and Jake Adkinson won the pole vault.
North Rock Creek had two individual champions: Chloe Kasterke in the girls high jump and Maddox Motley in the 110 hurdles.
