Meeker upped its offensive output from the season opener, putting up 415 yards of total offense, but still fell, 45-19, at Bethel.
In their opening win at Stroud, the Bulldogs relied on their defense, which returned two interceptions for touchdowns. This week, it was the offense, with quarterback Ty Gabbert throwing for 270 yards and running for another 43.
Gabbert threw for touchdowns to freshman Manny Saavedra and junior Braden Harris. He and senior Keavin Grady each ran for a touchdown, as well.
“We’re still on a learning curve,” said first-year coach Maverick Lang. “Offensively, we got better from Week 1 to Week 2.
“Defensively, we were out of assignment at times. They ran more productively than we wanted them to.
“They were big and physical on both sides of the ball.”
This week, the Bulldogs host Purcell, which comes in at 1-1 after falling to Lone Grove in the opener but rebounding to beat Lindsay, 20-14, last week.
