Dale High School’s baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision in the quarterfinals of the state tournament but Head Coach Eddie Jeffcoat believes, “We had a good spring season.”
The Pirates finished with 19 wins against nine losses, won district and regional titles and continued to earn a berth in the state tournament.
“We played a really tough schedule. There are 64 teams in Class 2A and anytime you make the state tournament you’re one of the top eight teams. Everyone wants to win the state tournament,” Jeffcoat noted.
He pointed out, “It didn’t end like we wanted it to, but that’s baseball,” Jeffcoat added.
The Pirates faced AmPo in the quarterfinals. The coach noted the Pirates defeated AmPo last fall on its way to claiming a state championship then, but hadn’t played them this spring prior to the state tournament.
“We just started off kind of sluggish, kind of bad. We came back, but just couldn’t get there,” he said.
