Davenport clips Yale in home opener

The Davenport Bulldogs grabbed their first win of the football season last Friday night limiting Yale to one touchdown while scoring four times themselves.

They defeated Yale 26-6 in Davenport’s home opener.

Senior quarterback Gage Keith threw four touchdown passes connecting on 6 of 13 attempts for 155 yards with one interception. He also rushed the ball for 44 yards on eight carries, had five tackle assists and returned an interception for 29 yards.

On the receiving end of three of those TD tosses was Colton Van Fossen. He snagged two passes each for 18 yards and another one for 13-yards from Keith.

The fourth TD throw went to Ty Harelson for the longest score of the night, a 61-yard pass completion, Davenport Coach John Greenfield said, “We played better for sure. We improved both offensively and defensively, blocking the right people.”

The veteran head coach noted, “Defensively, we played much better and their quarterback had to scramble the whole drive that led to their only score,” he stated.

“We had control from the beginning, there was never any doubt. We dominated both sides of the ball, offensively and defensively our players did a good job,” he thinks.

The Bulldogs go to Yukon Friday night for a road contest against Southwest Covenant. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

It will be the fourth non-district game of the season, Greenfield mentioned.
