Scoring seven touchdowns in the first half, the Davenport Bulldogs shut out Drumright 52-0 last week to run their season record to 9-0.
Because of the 45-point rule, the game was over at the conclusion of the second quarter.
Davenport will close out the regular portion of the season Friday night with a trip to Regent Prep in Tulsa.
Coach John Greenfield says the kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Greenfield said the contest will be for the district championship. Davenport is 3-0 in district and 9-0 overall. Regent Prep is 8-1 overall.
The Bulldogs have already secured home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
“If we win Friday night, we’ll have it for the first and second rounds,” he noted.
In the contest with Drumright, Greenfield said, “They had the ball for the first nine minutes of the game. But we held them on downs.
“Then we went down and scored,” he added.
With 2:07 left in the opening quarter, Parker Mitchell scored on a twoyard run. The conversion attempt was no good, but the Bulldogs took the lead for good 6-0.
Mitchell carried the ball eight times for 75 yards.
A minute later, Cole Yancey ripped off a 31- yard TD run and with the conversion it was 14-0 with 1:13 showing in the initial period. He had 40 yards running the ball.
Griffin Melson led the Davenport rushing attack gaining 108 yards on five carries with two rushing touchdowns and another on the receiving end from quarterback Chance Accord.
Accord was 140 yards passing on 8-14 attempts and he tossed three TD passes.
Gage Keith had 59 yards receiving on three passes and Casey Harelson pulled in four receptions for 51 yards.
Riley Ethridge had seven yards running the ball on one carry.
Talking about Drum right, the veteran coach said, “They had a hard time with us. We dropped a couple of TD passes.”
Looking ahead to Friday night’s contest, Greenfield says, “They throw the ball well. They have quickness and speed and they really like to throw the ball.”
He mentioned the Bulldogs may change up a formation or two and give them a different look.
