Jones 29, Lions 26

Jones won the battle of the conversion attempts Friday night and took a 29-26 district win over Chandler.

Jones dominated the first half and Chandler the second, with both teams scoring four touchdowns. But Longhorns converted all four of their point-after attempts, kicking three and throwing for one, while the Lions misfired on three.

The Longhorns sprinted out to a 21-0 lead before Chandler quarterback Kaden Jones broke the streak with a 5-yard scoring run just before halftime.

Casmen Hill ran 29 yards for another score five minutes into the third period, making it 21-12.

The Chandler defense stopped the next Jones possession at the 8-yard line, and the Lions followed with a 92-yard drive that ended with a Jones run around the left side for a touchdown on fourth down.

Jones hit Jarin Greenfield for a pass on the conversion, making it 21-20 with 11:50 left in the game.

Both teams added one more touchdown, with the Lions’ coming when Jones dove inside the pylon with 5:50 to play. The conversion attempt failed, leaving the score 29-26.

Chandler is back in action Friday with a home game against Star-Spencer. The Bobcats will bring a 2-3 record into the game.
