Three in a row

KennedyAllen gave up just three hits and two runs in three games and led the Chandler Lady Lions to their third straight 66 Conference tournament championship last week.

Chandler had a bye the first round and beat Meeker, 17-0, in the semifinals on Friday. In Saturday’s play, Allen no-hit McLoud and then gave up two hits and two runs to Prague en route to a 10-2 win in the finals.

Chandler coach Bryan Herring said the Lady Lions aren’t quite where he wants them to be yet, but they’re getting close.

“I think we’re starting to get there,” he said. “Our bats are starting to come alive. We’re exactly where I want us to be in the circle and behind the plate and we’re starting to utilize our speed.”

The Lady Lions put up five runs in the bottom first against Prague, getting a two-run double by Halle Herrmann and an RBI single by Rylee Capps.

Prague got a pair of runs in the fourth, but Chandler put up another nickel in the fifth to end the game.

Prague played six games in the tournament, losing the opener to Stroud, 3-2, but winning four straight and coming through the loser’s bracket to reach the finals.

“They definitely learned from some mistakes, started doing some things really well and then got back to playing he way we expected to - hitting the ball, getting around the bases, hitting the relays,” coach Dailyn King said of her team.

“They’re working a lot on their swings. It’s a process. They’re seeing the results of it and their confidence is growing with it.”
