Grant Elerick, Stroud:

Stroud senior Grant Elerick has been playing baseball since he could remember.

“I played t-ball when I was in kindergarten and fi rst grade, then played tournament ball when I was in elementary school and middle school, and played all through my high school career,” he said.

Throughout his baseball career he has been awarded with the Conference MVP.

For the Stroud Tigers this baseball season was off to a strong start with the Tigers wining five straight games and reigning undefeated.

“Oh man, it’s very emotional,” he said. “It’s kind of hard to wrap my mind around. It’s been a tough pill to swallow because sports has been a huge part of me ever since I’ve grown up.”

Although his athletic career will continue since he signed to play football at Northeastern State University, Elerick said he will miss making those last few memories.

“As far as baseball goes, that’s the last time I’ll step in the batter’s box or take the fi eld with my team and for us to only be fi ve games into the season, that’s heartbreaking,” he said.

It’s not just the sports that Elerick said he’s going to miss, but also getting to sit with his friends at lunch and talk to his teachers everyday.

With all the change that has happened the past few weeks, Elerick said he is trying to stay optimistic.

“It’s a tough situation, but at the end of the day, I’m losing the last quarter of my senior year, which is sad and I don’t get to play sports, but it could be worse,” he said. “There are people out there who are losing jobs and still have to support a family.”
