Enjoying the best kind of Memorial Day

Small, impromptu family get-togethers may be the best kind yet. That was what I and my wife, Pat and her mother had the chance to experience on Monday, Memorial Day. Don’t get me wrong.

Updates from Meeker Town Hall

We experienced another good week of meeting at the lake for the Quapaw 15 Project. The diver came with a crew of four and a boat and they went out into the water to the concrete water tower and successfully closed the bottom door on the tower, which was a major ordeal to close.

Kingdom of Heaven

If we are not careful, we will get over powered by everything happening around us and fear takes us over. When we skip what is commanded of us to do, we find ourselves trying to do it all ourselves because of fear.

Happenings at Prairie Pointe

Well, a COVID recovery milestone was reached when Joe Bill Shelhope began his weekly donut delivery again. (Gigi’s Donuts on N. 8th has been closed due to the virus.) Man, were we “Jonesing” for those tasty treats!

Town Talk

Thank you to everyone who came out for the Memorial Day Ceremony at the cemetery. It’s fitting that we come together as a community to honor the servicemen and women who gave so much that we might enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Large flying insects

I mowed on Monday evening, then Kindra and I sat on the porch and watched the lightning bugs float through the dusk. We have a good crop of them this year and they come out every evening to put on a show just for us. It is hard to estimate how many might be in the yard at any time.

Time for closure on Meeker case

Last September, a former vice mayor of Meeker filed a complaint claiming the Town’s Board of Trustees had violated the law.

Observing Memorial Day

This weekend America will celebrate Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a holiday that can be bittersweet for many people. I look forward to enjoying this long weekend.
