I was putting on my boots Monday morning when Monroe started barking. She is a 75-pounder with a deep voice, so when she starts barking five feet away it gets your attention. This was a “protecting her territory” bark that seemed out of place in the bedroom.

Wellston school bonds breeze

Lincoln County voters in the Wellston and McLoud school districts decided bond issues Tuesday in special elections. Voters in the Wellston school district overwhelmingly approved two propositions while two McLoud school bond issues were barely rejected.

School board rehires Toma

After a 54 minute executive session, the Chandler School Board approved the contract of the superintendent, Melody Toma, and hired two new employees. Melody Toma has worked at Chandler Public Schools since 1992.

Letter to the editor

They did it again. They took a city treasure and tried to destroy it. This make the third time. The Statistical building on the city park hill has had the doors torn off, windows broken out, ceiling tiles pulled down and the exterior trashed. Why?

Saturday morning started at 6:30, with me in the kitchen listening to Hank Williams and making 20 pounds of chili. Those two things happen often at my house, but Saturday was different because I had quite a few things to do during the day and the chili had to be ready by 6 p.m. Along about 9 a.m.

Cedar allergies

About this time every year, we are the recipients of Texas’s No. 1 export. Mountain cedar pollen. At least, that’s what the Texans call it. According to our friend, Google, it is actually juniper pollen, mislabeled with possible felonious intent and sent north in volume every spring.

Editorial Openness should be the standard not the exception when it comes to meetings and records of public bodies. We see and hear of boards, councils, other public bodies that either ignore or attempt to skirt the Open Meetings and Records Act.

Chandler and McLoud played at noon at the Chesapeake Arena Saturday, so a little after 10 a.m. I pitched the camera bag into the pickup and headed west.
