Some heard the quake; some didn’t

Some residents in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties heard and felt an earthquake early Monday that reportedly was centered near Sparks while others had no idea one even occurred. The U.S. Geological Survey shows it recorded a 3.9 magnitude earthquake at 6:12 a.m. Monday centered about 5.

The Lincoln County Annual OSU Extension Open House will be 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 11 at the OSU Extension Office & Courthouse Lobby. The OSU Extension Office Staff will host this special, annual event.

Time for flu shots

As the number of flu-related hospitalizations continues to increase, the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) reminds Oklahomans there is still time to get a flu shot. OSDH reports one death and nearly 100 hospitalizations associated with the flu since the season began in September.

When I was in grade school, my family sometimes would eat at the Hamburger King in Ada. Usually, it would be late in the evening, past the time when Mom would feel like cooking supper at home. My standard order was a hamburger basket, which actually came in a little red plastic basket.

When I was seven years old, we lived across the road from a large pond. It was a good 500 yards from the house, but there was an unobstructed view from the living room window, so Mom used to let me fish there by myself during the summer.

When I was a kid, my parents and sister sang a lot of gospel music. And by “a lot,” I mean I cannot count the times I was bounced out of bed at what I considered an offensive hour by my mother pounding the upright piano that was on the other side of the wall from my room.

In the middle of Sunday night, I woke myself up kicking an alligator. This particular gator was a feisty one, large, with snapping jaws and a bad attitude. I was kicking him in the head so he would turn toward my partner, who would shoot him and pull him up a boat ramp.

Letter to Editor

To the Editor: I want to report some facts on a happening that is disturbing to me and to other rural residents in this part of our county. I have a friend-neighbor who owns a cattle and hauling business here in eastern Lincoln County.
