Dove season

I’ve always looked forward to this time of year. The month of August is normally hot and it’s been plenty hot lately, topping the century mark regularly as September nears. Some areas across the state have seen muchneeded rain. Others not so much.

Back to school memories

Many of the schools in the area started back this past week, signaling the end to the summer break.

Monroe’s DNA

A couple of months ago, Kindra got a Doggy DNA test for Reno. It confirmed that he was more than half Siberian Husky and a world-class shedder. So, I thought: I should order tests for Martin and Monroe and see what kind of ancestry they have.

Town Talk

Well, I’m back this week. Last week I was a little under the weather, got my days confused and totally missed my newspaper deadline. I hope I didn’t cause you to miss an important community event last week because I didn’t have the happenings listed in the newspaper.

Child crimes

My wife Pat and I generally tune in the 10 p.m. news, weather and sports on one of the television stations. About the only time we don’t, is occasionally when we’re out late or out of town.

Chandler Library News

One of the new programs at your local Chandler Public Library is the 1KB4K program (One Thousand Books Before Kindergarten) which has been really popular with our youngest patrons.

Hot times

We turned the corner this week from July and headed straight into August - usually the hottest month of the year - and I don’t mind telling you that I am frightened. Sunday night, Kindra and I went for a short walk along the North Canadian River and nearly sweated ourselves to death.

Glad for precautions

My wife, Pat, and I were remembering back the other day to our childhoods when during the “Dog Days of Summer” our parents made us stay inside in the afternoon.

The Stroud Clothing Ministry is open today, Thursday July 27th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on West Highway 66. First Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School program will be Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at the church.
