I was sleeping like a spruce log Wednesday night when a snake grabbed my arm. This was a big snake, as round as a Folger’s can and long enough where I couldn’t see all of it. I leaped out of bed, shook the snake off my arm and slapped the wall for the light switch.

Billi Kaye Smith Meacham, Stroud High School graduate and former Miss Oklahoma. donated her pageant dress to Town Talk. We plan on having it on display as part of Stroud’s history. I took it to Fox Cleaners which is located just around the corner from my home in Tulsa.

Chandler School Board

Chandler’s Board of Education members this week approved the 2023-2024 Estimate of Needs and financial statement and the “Application for Sanctioning” of several booster clubs. School Supt. Scott Baade said Chandler High School has been ranked the 12th best in Oklahoma by U.S.

The 2023-2024 hunting and fishing regulations are out now, hot off the press and State Game Warden Mike France says there are no major changes. France is assigned to Pottawatomie County and also assists in Lincoln County when needed. Jacob Harriet is the warden assigned to Lincoln County.

To the Lincoln County Commissioners and fellow board members of the Lincoln County Fair Board. I am resigning from my seat as an active attending member of the Lincoln County Fair Board effective immediately.

Lincoln County Commissioners are addressing what has been termed “An Emergency Medical Services crisis.” They recently voted to create an Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board and appointed the seven members to it. Purpose of that board is to begin addressing the crisis in Lincoln County.

Pottawatomie County’s Free Fair unfolds next week and it’s the 84th year for the event. It would be the 85th, except it was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. I’m glad to see some events and exhibits returning like the Big Bass tourney which was started last year and returns again this year.

We have another new business on Main Street. Dell and Jenni Sparger recently purchased the RV Park and Pawn Shop on Route 66 just west of Stroud. After the purchase they decided to move the Pawn Shop to downtown Stroud. It is in the building that was formerly the Sisters Consignment Store.

I’ve gotten to meet a few interesting people in my time. Sat on a plane one day next to Bob Richards, the Vaulting Parson, whose visage graced Wheaties cereal boxes when I was a kid. He was in 70s at the time and pleased beyond measure that I recognized him.
