I was daydreaming over the weekend about some places I’d like to visit. Every year I threaten to make a few of these trips, but I think the time has come for me and Kindra to throw clothes and a camera in the pickup and take off.

This year’s International Finals Youth Rodeo officially kicks off Sunday evening with the first performance at 7 p.m. at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center. Randy Gilbert, chairman of the Shawnee Civic and Cultural Development Authority, says official check-in begins at 8 a.m. on Friday.

Thank you to everyone who came out to play miniature golf this weekend at Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66. We appreciate the support. Not only did we have lots of local golfers, but we also had a family from Bristow who made a special trip to play with us.

We kept the grandson part of this weekend and when Pat and I and little Liam were riding around on Saturday we drove by several fireworks stands. It’s hard not to drive by one as many as there are around and they’ve been selling fireworks for at least a couple of weeks already.

I recently had occasion to talk to two old friends about an event that happened to us close to 50 years ago. The three of us were duck hunting with another friend named Terry, who suggested we go to a watershed lake not far away. “I have permission to hunt there,” he said.

Bench warrant issued in endangerment

A $25,000 bench warrant has been issued one of two persons arrested and charged last September with child endangerment after he failed to appear for his court hearing. Charged with felony child endangerment was Khalil Steele, 23, no address listed.

‘Time served’ recommended in child’s death

A Lincoln County jury has found a murder defendant guilty of the lesser crime of second degree manslaughter and recommended time served as his punishment. The jury returned its verdict against Khristian Tyler Martzall, 32, of Wellston after 1 a.m. following more than eight hours of deliberations.

Guilty verdict in biker shooting death

A Lincoln County jury has convicted an Oklahoma City biker of first degree manslaughter in the shooting death of a Midwest City man in September of 2021. The jury found Steven Roberts, 56, guilty of shooting Daniel Aaron, 33, in the back as he drove his motorcycle on U.S.
