Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on Fireworks Display A. The Chamber of Commerce had a great make up event for the Fireworks Display. B. They shot off fireworks for what seemed like an hour. There were different patterns that exploded in the sky this year with different twist & turns.

Town Talk

Town Talk volunteers began work this week putting the golf holes together. We completed five of the nine holes. A big thank you to volunteers Julie Bivin, Heather Black and David and Janet Griebel for giving up a day to help make this happen.

The unexpected

I had the lens of the trusty Nikon pressed close to the fence near home plate and focused on the batter. As the radio As the radio announcers used to say: “There’s the pitch, and there’s the swing.

Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on Highway 18 A. ODOT is still laying the third two-inch asphalt overlay. We are noticing the rock being applied at the shoulders of the asphalt for the lateral support. 2. Update on Fireworks Display A. The city workers have been mowing again all week at the lake.

An anaconda in the backyard

As if my wife Pat being stung by some kind of bee or wasp a few weeks back didn’t cause enough excitement, we had a few more frantic moments recently. This time no one was stung, hurt or injured.

Six bricks

It hurt, passing the corner of the Baptist church and seeing a cleared lot where memories had stood for more than a century. Time finally caught up with the old red brick building in Fitzhugh that had been the center of town, literally and figuratively.

The first harbinger of fall

As my wife Pat and I were taking a walk the other night, she mentioned how the beginning of school seems to signal the change of seasons. Of course the start of fall is still six weeks away, but still there’s truth to that comment.

Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on Asphalt Overlay on Highway 18 A. ODOT has just layed their third 2” asphalt overlay this week. Under each overlay there is a spray or bitumen that is a binder from one overlay to another. It also acts as a sealer.

Congratulations to Larry Henderson and Alfreidya Webster on the official grand opening of their purchase of the Skyliner Motel. The Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome the new owners.
