Early holiday deadlines

We’ll close the Lincoln County News office on New Year’s Day, which is on a Monday this year. Monday holidays also mean we’ll have early deadlines for news, ads, obits and legals for those editions. The deadline for the Jan. 4 edition will be 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29.

Betty Jean (Pierson) Brauer was born in Asher, Oklahoma on January 4, 1935 to Raymond Mayo Pierson and Elisia Abigail (Mahoney) Pierson. She departed this life on December 12th, 2023, in Tulsa, at the age of 88yearsold.

Ella “Mae” Smothers, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023, in Stroud, Oklahoma. Mae was born on Friday, October 15, 1937, to Jesse HomerandWalcieGladys (Marion) Thomas in Luther, Oklahoma.

Losing a good friend

I lost a good friend early Monday morning, someone I had grown to think a lot of and a person I had learned to respect. John reportedly died in his sleep. I started getting calls a little after 7 that morning from friends wanting to know if he had passed away.

Hearing continued

The preliminary hearing has been continued for a Prague man charged with larceny of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. Joseph Resin Linnhuber, 19, Prague was formally charged in Lincoln County on Sep. 28.

Pair to be tried for murder

A Wellston woman and an Iowa man have been bound to stand trial in the death of a Carney man and both face first degree murder charges along with three other felonies.

Fourth felony for Chandler man

A Chandler man already facing three felonies and a misdemeanor, has been charged with a fourth. Darrick Lee Delano Hunter, 41, was formally charged Dec. 8 in Lincoln County District Court with violation of the Mary Rippy Violent Crime Registration Act.

Hoops at the break

The Dale girls and North Rock Creek boys finished up the 2023 portions of their schedules unbeaten, the Lady Pirates being 10-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 2A and the Cougars going 8-0 and owning the No. 2 ranking in Class 4A. They will resume play on Jan.
