The Stroud Lady Tigers, the North Rock Creek boys and the Dale boys and girls harvested championships last week in the first high school basketball tournament week of the week of the year.

Early holiday deadlines

We’ll close the Lincoln County News office on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, which are on Mondays this year. Monday holidays also mean we’ll have early deadlines for news, ads, obits and legals for those editions. The deadline for the Dec. 28 and the Jan. 4 editions will be 5 p.m.

Wellston’s James wins contest

Perseverance is key with Wellston high schooler Kaden James. The sophomore placed first this year in the Intermediate AFR/OFU division at the American Farmers and Ranchers (AFR) State Speech Contest held in Stillwater on Dec. 2.

Two die in crash south of Stroud

A tire blow out on SH 99 south of Stroud in Lincoln County reportedly caused a pickup to go out of control and crash, leading to the death of the driver and his passenger.

Area school board candidate filings

Candidates for Boards of Education in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties filed Declaration of Candidacies last week. In Lincoln County, those who filed for seats include: Agra, Office No. 4, Trenton Herrmann, wins unopposed. Carney, Office No. 4, Charles Wright, JaNetta Milburn-Barr, Ramona Perry.

I am almost finished with my Christmas shopping. Most of the presents are for my kids, grandkids and step-kids and involve pictures of dead presidents, so it’s not quite the accomplishment it seems, but hey. Celebrate life’s accomplishments when you can, right?
