Hearing in Carney man’s death

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for an Iowa man charged in the connection with the death of a Carney man and a pre-preliminary hearing has been continued for a Wellston woman in the case. Each faces three felonies. Each is being held in the Lincoln County Jail in Chandler without bond.

Lions 62, Bethel 21

Chandler ran off 62 unanswered points and swamped district rival Bethel, 62-21, on Homecoming Friday night in a game that didn’t seem as close as the final score indicates. The victory leaves the Lions tied with Jones for first place in District 2A-2 and sets up an important two-game stretch.

Tigers 48, Miners

Stroud’s Tigers pounded Hartshorne 4816 Friday to notch their fourth straight win and stay in a first-place tie with Mounds in District A-7. The Tigers, now 4-2 on the year, and the Golden Eagles, 5-1, meet at Mounds on Oct. 19.

Liyah Dauman of Prague was named the District 3A-7 fastpitch player of the year and Chandler’s Carson Jackson and Kennedy Allen were named the defensive player of the year and pitcher of the year, respectively. Prague coach Dailyn King was the district co-coach of the year.

Early last week, my wife’s mom passed away. She was 97 years old. We had a graveside service just as she had requested and family and friends gathered at our house, some for several hours, following the service, which also was to accommodate her wishes.

Town Talk Team Trivia is taking place Oct. 18th at 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion building in Stroud. The cost is $20 for an individual and $30 for a couple from the same household.

Meeker school board approves bus

Meeker Board of Education members this week adopted a resolution for the annual school election and approved purchase of a 71-passenger bus. They also approved holding graduation to be held at Camp Cargill on May 10, 2024.
