Honor rolls from Seminole State College

Officials at Seminole State College have released the names of honor roll students for the 2021 fall semester. Three separate honor rolls recognize students for their academic achievements. The President’s Honor Roll is comprised of students who maintain a perfect 4.

Chandler, Stroud, White Rock honor rolls

The honor rolls for the first semester of the 2021-2022 school year have been released by officials at Chandler Junior High School. The following students were on the Superintendent’s “A” Honor Roll.

Charges against Chandler man

A man was charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors following his arrest recently by Chandler police and he also admitted to taking meth. Formal felony charges of first degree burglary and protective order violation were filed in Lincoln County District Court Jan.

Pedestrian fatality on Turner Turnpike

A pedestrian died early Wednesday morning after he was reportedly struck by a vehicle on the Turner Turnpike west of Stroud in Lincoln County. State Trooper Spears identified the victim as Russell Mitchell, 49, of Glencoe. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Stroud Fire Department.

A little over a year ago Pat and I had received our initial vaccinations to protect us from COVID-19. We had to wait four weeks before we could receive our second Moderna shot, but by the end of February we had it. Eight months later we received our third shot, the booster, and we were glad we did.

I serve on the Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Commission and thus receive regular articles regarding tourism in Oklahoma. The latest email I received from Lt. Governor Matt Pinnell’s office was titled “Where to travel 2022: The best destinations to visit.” The article came from CNN travel.

Dale approves stipends

Dale School Board members this week voted to approve stipends for all certified and support personnel using Esser II funds. Acting School Supt. Ky Wilkins explained that certified teachers who were at Dale last year will each receive $1,400.

The ice and snow from last week’s winter storm has disappeared but it forced area schools to make adjustments and caused many to close. Some area schools went to virtual learning, others closed and took snow days and several did both.
