We will commemorate Memorial Day on Monday, May 31st. The American Legion Auxiliary will be putting flags at the cemetery on veterans’ graves Thursday, May 27th beginning at 9:00 a.m. A special thank you to Ken and Celeste Carpenter and Carpenter Insurance for providing the flags each year.

Stroud Arts is hosting their First Annual Spray Paint Mural Competition which will be held at the Stroud Summer Fest 2021, on Saturday June 12 from 10am to 5 pm. The wining artist or team of artists will be given a place wall space in downtown Stroud to recreate their competition entry.

I see where the annual Faith 7 bowl is back after a taking a year off due to COVID-19. The game is slated for Saturday, June 5, at Oklahoma Baptist University’s Noble Complex.

COVID keeps climbing in area

The number of new cases in the area attributed to COVID-19 has jumped some in Pottawatomie and Lincoln Counties, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show. There have been two new deaths in Pottawatomie County but none in Lincoln County since the last report.

Local arrest in Capitol incursion

A 25-year-old Chandler resident was arrested this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for allegedly participating in the incident on Jan. 6 of this year where hundreds of people stormed the U.S. Capitol.

Officials at Carney High School have named the top two graduates for the 2021 graduating class. Sarah McFadden was named Valedictorian and Sara Mayes is the Salutatorian. They were honored at commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 14. McFadden is the daughter of Bill and Yolanda McFadden.

The pre-schoolers at East Side Elementary School got into the end-of-school spirit with the school’s annual rodeo last week. They had stick horse races, roping and rocking horse bronc riding and threw flying disks made to look like cow pies.
