Dale baseball falls in state semis

The Dale Pirates lost out in their attempt to reach the finals of the Class A fall baseball championship when they suffered a 17-9 season ending setback to longtime rival Silo in the semi-finals.

Still, Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s team won both the Regional and District tournaments en route to landing a spot in the state tournament.

The Pirates finished the season with a record of 24- 10.

In the semi-final matchup, Silo jumped ahead 5-0 after three innings. Silo scored a single run in the top of the first, then added four more in its half of the third. Dale made it 5-3 after four, but Silo scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth.

Trailing 15-3 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Pirates answered with six runs to pull within 6 at that point. But they couldn’t get any closer and Silo added single runs in the top of the sixth and seventh inning.

Senior Connor Kuykendall took the pitching loss.
