Meeker resolution for election

The Meeker Board of Education this week adopted a resolution calling for the annual school election.

On the ballot will be Office No. 2. School Supt. Jeff Pruitt confirmed that seat is now held by Bret Wood who was not in attendance at Monday night’s meeting.

The filing period is from Monday, Dec. 6 through Wednesday, Dec. 8.

A Lincoln County Election Board official said on Tuesday if three or more file for a seat the primary will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. If just two file, the general election will be Tuesday, April 5, she said.

High School Principal Brad Buxton presented the dropout report for the high school and middle school. He informed board members the number of dropouts at the middle school was zero and the high school had one.

The information was based on the 2019-2020 school year, the latest figures available, he said.

He also provided a College Remediation Report based on that same year. Of 72 who graduated in May of 2020, 25 completed a full year of College, he advised them.

Buxton said of those 25, only five, which equates to 20 percent, needed remediation.

Buxton also said high school enrollment stands at 213 students.

Pruitt said the number of middle school students attending currently is 142.

He said Alternative Education numbers are at 77 including virtual and blended.

Elementary Principal Candice Gatz informed the board enrollment is 338, about three down due to those students moving away.

The board approved of administering the ACT to eligible juniors in the spring of 2022.

Board members also voted to authorize Pruitt to negotiate the best deal to purchase air purifiers to mitigate the COVID virus.

They also agreed to approve Policy FE on student transfers.

The board, without going into executive session, voted to approved the resignation of Russell Fletcher, high school custodian and lawn maintenance.
