Helen “Marlene” Gilmore went to her heavenly home on November 23, 2021 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, at the age of 86. She was the daughter of Helen Pearl (Kilby) Broaddus and Cleo J. “Skeet” Broaddus of Meeker, Okla., where she spent most of her childhood years. Marlene was born in Prague, Okla., on May 25, 1935 and graduated from Meeker High School with the class of 1953.
Marlene worked for Shawnee Industries and later worked as a base contractor at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Okla., until her retirement in 1992. She lived at Midwest City at the time of her retirement, but never forgot her close friends in Meeker. She moved to Buncombe Creek at Lake Texoma in 2016 to be near her family.
Marlene loved her Lord and Savior first and foremost, and her family after that. She loved her little community church and especially her Sunday School class, where she rarely missed a service. She was a warm and caring person with a giving heart, and it made her very happy to help anyone in need. She always had a smile on her face and hugs for her family and close friends. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always ready for an adventure, and would be ready to go at a moment’s notice. Her only questions were, “when do we leave?” and “do I sit in the front seat or back seat?”
Marlene is preceded in death by her parents, Helen Pearl Broaddus and Cleo J. “Skeet” Broaddus, and her older brother, Donald Guy McGuire. She is survived by her three daughters: Kerri Harris and husband Tim, Tracee Anderson and husband Gary, and Lori Gilmore, all of Kingston, Oklahoma. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Services were held at Texoma Southern Baptist Church, 4501 Shay Road, Kingston, OK 73439 on Saturday Nov. 27, 2021. A graveside service followed at New Hope Cemetery in Meeker, Okla. Services provided by Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.
