A driver faces two felony charges and a misdemeanor following a high speed pursuit that injured a Lincoln County deputy sheriff.
Formal charges were filed in Lincoln County District Court Jan. 5 against Lakrisha Kaylynn Dutton, 36. The two felonies include assault and battery on a police officer and eluding/attempting to elude a police officer.
A $10,000 bench warrant was issued for arrest on the same day the charges were filed.
In Count 1, Dutton is accused of ramming her vehicle into the side of Deputy Kevin Chapman’s official vehicle at about 850 Road and SH 99 in Lincoln County with the intent to injure the deputy as he was attempting to have Dutton stop her vehicle.
Count 2 charges her with continuing to drive her vehicle at about the same location as the previous count while several officers were attempting to have Dutton stop her vehicle.
In the misdemeanor, Dutton is accused of driving her vehicle at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour and continuing to drive after officers deployed stop sticks, which popped Dutton’s front tires.
In an affidavit filed in the case by Deputy Chapman, he reported responding to the area of 850 Road and SH 99 north of Stroud related to a pursuit. He said the Cushing Police Department was pursuing a Ford Explorer along with the Drumright Police Department and Payne County Sheriff’s Office at speed exceeding 90 miles per hour. He said Dutton’s vehicle swerved and narrowly missed his front bumper. Her vehicle left the roadway to the east and regained control, continuing southbound with several officers in pursuit.
Chapman headed south in the northbound lane and he activated his siren, he states in the affidavit.
As he approached Dutton’s vehicle, he said he could feel her vehicle strike his unit and could also feel her vehicle ramming his.
He said he could feel her vehicle still pushing against his unit as he slowed and turned right to force her vehicle to the right of way.
Chapman reported during the events he suffered an injury to his right shoulder so he went to the Stroud Emergency Room. Preliminary examination indicated he had a torn rotator cuff and required an MRI for further examination.
