NRC girls qualify for state golf tournament

One area high school girls golf team is headed to the state tournament today and Friday and two other girls from another school were competing as individuals in the state tourney Wednesday and today.

One boy has qualified to play in the state tournament next week.

Several teams and in dividuals were playing on Tuesday still trying to qualify for the state tournament.

North Rock Creek Coach Regan Bowler’s Class 4A girls golf squad will tee it up today and Friday at Buffalo Rock Golf Course in Cushing for state tournament play.

Bowler said her girls “were third at the region als, shooting a season best score of 415.”

They played the Elk City Golf and Country Club course, Bowler stated.

Team members include Abigail Hurst, Hannah Ehtisham, Kayla Auld, Chloe Clark and Avery Burnett.

Two girls from Prague, Elle Standlee and Maggie Smith, were playing in the Class 2A girls tournament as individuals. They were competing in the tournament Wednesday and again today at the Aqua Canyon Course in Guthrie.

Evan Smith, boys coach at NRC, said that sophomore Bo Gentry has qualified for the State Class 4A tournament next Monday and Tuesday, May 9 and 10, at Boiling Springs Golf Course in Woodward.

“He shot 77 and 83 at Prairie West Golf Course in Weatherford under brutal conditions,” Smith noted.

Boys teams from Stroud and Prague were competing Tuesday afternoon at Cedar Valley in Guthrie in the Regionals in hopes of qualifying for the state tournament.

So were two golfers, Fisher Reed from Davenport and Evan Tirey from Meeker, who were trying to qualify as individuals.

The Class 2A state boys golf tournament will be played next week, May 9 and 10, at Buffalo Rock at Cushing.
