Town Talk

Alumni weekend is fast approaching and the Class of 1962 will be celebrating their 60th anniversary this year.

Friday night, May 27th, the class will be gathering at the FFA building which is attached to the south side of the old high school gymnasium, Memorial Gym.

They will be decorating their class float and pizza will be provided. They will meet again at the FFA building on Saturday, May 28th from 10 a.m. until just before the parade starts.

There will be food and beverages served. Event organizers are encouraging all class members to stop by and visit and catch up with old friends.

Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66 is officially official. Our sign is up so it won’t be long now.

Opening day is Saturday, May 28th. Regular hours have not yet been determined but hours on the 28th will be from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Cost is $5 for 11 years of age and up.

Children four to ten years of age are $3.00. Children under three years of age are free.

We eventually plan to have a few picnic tables at the course but for now just bring a lawn chair with you. We will have snacks and drinks available for sale.

A special treat, Johnny Freezes, will be available, too.

Those will be $5. My five-year-old greatnephew August has already volunteered to sell these for us, since it is one of his favorite treats. My first thought was, “There go the profits!” LOL

All proceeds, after expenses, will go back into maintaining the golf course as well as any future additions.

This course is a not-for-profit endeavor. Town Talk just wants to cover expenses and upkeep while providing an activity for locals as well as visitors.

Mother and I visited my nephew Casey in Nashville this past week. We went downtown to Broadway to hang out while Casey played a gig at Miranda Lambert’s restaurant and cantina, Casa Rosa.

Blake Shelton’s entertainment venue is just a few doors down and since Mom is a huge fan of Blake’s I decided to take her there. It was closed due to a game show pilot being filmed there.

We were told we could sign up to be audience members during the taping, so I told Mom, “Let’s do it.” We got our wrist bands and were ready.

The show is called Barmageddon. During the filming we saw Blake Shelton, Carson Daly, and Kevin Hart.

That was our brush with fame during our time in Nashville. When returning to Oklahoma our flight took us on the scenic route with a layover in Washington D.C. While there, we ran into Stroud alum Chris Boyd, who was returning to Oklahoma from a business trip to Chicago.

Chris and Casey were dear high school friends. It definitely is a small world.

The veteran’s banners are up again on Main Street. They look amazing and are a great addition to our downtown.

They will remain up through Veteran’s Day. Banners are still available for purchase so if you are interested, just text or call me at 918-527-9833. We are getting Main Street flowerpots ready for Mother’s Day and Alumni/Memorial Day weekend.

We are trying a little something different this year. We are hoping to have our flowers make a bigger statement on Main, so we are grouping them together to give more of an illusion of large arrangements. Let us know what you think.

My three great-nephews all had ballgames this past week.

August and Lincoln had their first -ball game and August hit his first homerun. Lincoln got a good hit, too. Gideon played in a baseball tournament in Edmond over the weekend and his team took first place.

Gideon pitched most of the championship game and recorded nine strikeouts. It was a good weekend for baseball!

Did you know Mother’s Day is this Sunday?
