Alumni/Memorial Day weekend is fast approaching. People have begun to talk about all the activities taking place locally the last weekend in May.
One thing on the agenda is the opening of the minigolf course. Town Talk is anxious for alums to see it since most of the money for the project came from Stroud’s generous alums. Town Talk hopes they are pleased with the results.
As I’ve mentioned several times, we have been having trouble with our roof. David Evans has tried many things and conferred with other builders, but it has continued to leak.
Town Talk asked on Facebook if there were any roofers in our community. We received a call from Stroud alum and local resident, John Murfin, who said he would be glad to donate to the golf course through helping us with a new roof.
John has recently started his own roofing and guttering business, Jackpot Roofing and Gutters, so he was just the man we were looking to find.
His crew and David hopefully have the problem under control. We are back in business.
As I’ve mentioned before, my great-nephew Gideon Smalley not only plays local baseball but also plays on a traveling team, OKC Sandlot 11U Morton.
This past week he was named “Ortho Plus Player of the Week.” Gideon pitched four and one-third innings over two games.
He had nine strikeouts and one BB (base on ball). His hitting was 3-7 with one RBI.
He finished off the semi-final game with a save in 1.1 innings. He started the championship game and earned the win pitching three innings.
His coach said, “He was pretty dominating.” Congratulations, Gideon. Hard work pays off!
Activities coming up in Stroud are City Council meeting Thursday night May 12th at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
Remember Stroud’s clothing ministry is open every Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on West Highway 66. Stroud’s Kindergarten graduation is Friday, May 13th at 7:00 p.m.
The Mason’s “all you can eat” breakfast takes place again this Saturday, May 14th from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the agricultural building. The last day of school will be next Wednesday, May 18th.
I have heard from Class of 1972 and Class of 1962 that they have big plans for alumni weekend. Class of 1972 is celebrating their 50-year reunion.
I know Janet Place Huwar and Marilyn Mushrush Wheeler have been getting their class activities planned so if you have any questions, please contact one of these ladies. Donna Ashford Dundee has been spearheading plans for their 1962 60-year reunion, so she is a good contact person for you if you have questions about their celebration plans.
If you need phone numbers, contact me at 918-527-9833.
Longtime Stroud resident, Jean Lee Bailey, is packing her bags and moving to Texas with her son, Billy, to be near her daughter Janet. Jean is experiencing some health issues and needs to move closer to family. Jean is a retired teacher and taught second grade.
I just ran across a picture of her secondgrade class when my brother Gary was in second grade. She is also a long-time member of the Assembly of God Church. She will be missed in our community, but we wish her God’s speed as she relocates to Texas.
