Stroud at 5-0, two left

    Stroud pummeled Mounds, 46-14, Friday and moved to within arm’s reach of a district championship.

    The Tigers can clinch it with a win in one of their final two games, which are against Wewoka and Savanna, who have a combined 3-13 record for the regular season.

    Along with the prestige of a district title, the Tigers would be guaranteed home field in the first two rounds of the playoffs and perhaps longer, if they keep winning and match up against the right opponents.

    Stroud had little trouble against Mounds, taking a 39-0 lead before giving up a couple of late touchdowns.

    Now comes Wewoka at home on Friday, then a road trip to Savanna to close out the season.

    “The biggest thing in the next two weeks is trying to stay sharp and crisp for the playoffs,” said coach Josh Presley. “Every week, it will be about us and what we can do to get better.

    Presley praised the play of the defense against Mounds and credited the coaching staff for preparing well.

    “They did a great job getting our guys ready,” he said. “We had them under100 yards total offense until about six minutes left in the game.

    “Our Offensive line has played really well. We’ve averaged about 300 yards per game and over seven yards per carry.”

    Presley also had Avg about 300 yards a game on the ame, over 7 yards a carry.
