Chandler, Dale, McLoud, Prague advance

Six local teams moved into the area basketball tournaments, which begin Thursday.

In Class 4A, North Rock Creek’s boys won the regional that they hosted, beating Anadarko, 42-39, in a game that went down the final second. Now 21-4 and ranked No. 8, the Cougars travel to Noble Friday night to take play top-ranked Kingfisher at 7:30. A win puts the Cougars in the state tournament for the first time in their short history.

Also in Class 4A, McLoud’s boys fell to Weatherford in the regional finals and will play Bethany at 7:30 Thursday at Hennessey. The Redskins go into area with a 21-5 record and ranked No. 14.

In Class 3A, Prague’s No. 6 boys team breezed through the regional, beating Bethel by 25 and Henryetta by 14. They will tackle Purcell at East Central University in Ada at 7:30 Friday. A win against the Dragons sends Prague to the state tournament.

Chandler’s boys fell to Washington in the first round of the regional, but beat Webster and Berryhill to move into the area. The Lions are 15-11 going into their game against the Alva Goldbugs at 3 p.m. Thursday in Enid.

In Class 2A, Dale’s top-ranked girls and boys won their regionals with little trouble, winning all their games by at least 20 points.

The Lady Pirates, 27-1, play Warner at Cleveland at 6 p.m. on Friday and the boys, 28-0, meet Colcord at 7:30.

Wins in those games will put Dale into the state tournament.
