Moehle and Norrell are February Lions

Chandler High School seniors Jacob Moehle and Claire Norrell have been chosen as Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club for the month of February.

Jacob Moehle, the son of Ryan and Rachel Moehle, holds a 4.0 grade point average. In addition to his regular classes, he has participated in the pre-engineering program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee and taken concurrent classes through Seminole State College in Seminole, Okla., and Rose State College in Midwest City, Okla. By the end of his senior year he will have earned 30 college credit hours.

Jacob was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and is a three-year Academic Letter recipient.

He was involved in FIRST Robotics and Skills USA at GCTC. In Robotics, he took part in regional and world competitions winning the Chairman’s Award, the Safety Award and the Engineering Inspiration Award.

Jacob’s leadership capabilities were demonstrated as he served as freshman class vice president and treasurer for both his sophomore and junior classes.

He played the alto saxophone and tenor saxophone in the CHS band and served as a section leader since August 2018. He also participated in CHS Choir.

To give back to the community, he helped out at the food pantry and served in children’s programs and community outreach through his youth group at First Baptist Church. Being involved in FIRST Robotics, provided Jacob with the opportunity to teach elementary students about healthy living and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics concepts in the STEM on Wheels program, as well as providing leadership and support for Lego Robotics competitions in their Lego League.

For the last three years, in addition to his schoolwork and activities, Jacob worked as a barista at Manvel Avenue Coffee Company in Chandler. Upon graduation, he plans to attend Oklahoma State University in Stillwater working toward a dual major in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.

Claire Norrell is the daughter of Amanda Sprague and Clay Norrell. She maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking advanced classes in English for four years and mathematics for one.

She also has completed six hours of college credit by taking concurrent classes during her high school years.

She is a member of both the Oklahoma and National Honor societies and has earned an invitation to the Academic Banquet for three years. A three-year recipient of the Academic Excellence Award, Norrell received Academic Excellence in Biology, Government, Spanish I and II, English II and Geography. She was named Outstanding Student in Algebra II.

She was a member of the CHS track and crosscountry teams all four years of high school and served as manager for both the boys and girls basketball teams. She was also involved in Rotary Club, Positive Peers and Postponing Sexual Involvement.

Norrell demonstrated leadership skills serving as freshman class president and vice president of her junior and senior classes. She was student council representative for the National Honor Society and was selected to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors.

She has been involved in the community through Relay for Life, Girl Power and the Ice Cream Festival. She aided military veterans by delivering Christmas cards to the Veterans Administration Hospital and participating in Stand Down for Veterans collecting necessary items for vets.

Norrell helped out children by collecting toys and volunteering for the elementary track and field day. She has participated in the youth group at Chandler First Baptist Church and served her church as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School and taking a mission trip to Kansas.

Norrell worked at Manvel Avenue Coffee Company during high school. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in architectural engineering at OSU.
